Evaluation: Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The layout of my cover is much better as I have more content and therefore there isn't big spaces as on my college magazine there was a lot of space and the text was very spread out and large. The masthead is also improved by a vast amount as on my college magazine it didn't stand out and it was plain, on my music magazine the masthead is presented in a box and it is very big and bold and takes up a good amount of space which means it stands out well.

The photo quality is improved a lot as this college magazine photo is cut out really badly as you can still see bits of the background in the photo and the models head had been cut off which means it was taken badly, this shows i've also improved on my camera skills throughout the process of my making my magazine.

The positioning of the photograph has improved as in my college magazine the text was layout around the photo and this made it look messy and unstructured whereas in my music magazine there is a lot more photos and the text overlaps it therefore showing that there is a flow within the page rather than the text and pictures just being placed.

The layout of my contents page has changed dramatically, in the college magazine the layout was very simple with no real structure. It was very basic, I moved on from that for my music magazine contents page as it has boxes that separate different type of stores and also has subheadings which make the contents page much easier to read.

The colour is improved as in my college magazine there was no colour which made the contents page very boring and dull, now a range of colours have been used which means that the page has been bought alive also the pictures have added good content to my music magazine as it shows more into the stories that are featured in it.

Lastly, the effects that have been used are good as there is a coloured background, drop shadow on boxes and symbols all used, these just add a little something different to the page and make it more like a music magazine. I have learnt to be able to add and use these since creating my college magazine.

Evaluation: Question 5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation: Question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product? Why?

I have drawn a person who i would consider to be my target audience, it would most likely be a girl as in the top of the pops magazine 87% of the people who purchase the magazine are girls. The age range would probably be 11-15 as that is the secondary school age when most girls are listening to pop music. I think she would buy my magazine as she wears very trendy clothes, that are light colours and fashionable and be into fashion and arts.

Evaluation: Question 3 - What kind of media instiution might distribute your product and why?

Please click on the photos to take you to flickr

Evaluation: Question 2- How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Pixie Lott

Posture- both the girls have their arms at their side to show they are relaxed, this also indicates a calmed feeling. Also they are situated in the centre of the shot and on a dark background, which makes them stand out as an individual more.

Camera angle- the camera is at eye level, this will help to sell the magazine as the audience will connect to the artist as they are looking straight at them and therefore they will be drawn to the magazine.

Shot type- I used a medium close up, as this is an appropriate shot type for a magazine, it shows off your artist’s style and also their make up this is something that will right off grab the audience’s attention.

Lighting- in both the photos there is no lighting, this makes the picture stand out, the night background helps the artist to stand out as it means they are both wearing light colours which contrast with the black background.

Costume- the costumes are similar as they both have low cut tops showing off a little cleavage however not much so they are still reasonably covered up. They are both wearing a simple necklace, which draws their attention.

Expression- the artists both have wide smiles this shows their happiness and goes within the genre of my magazine, as pop is seen as a fun genre. Therefore the expression on the artists face must portray this too.

Makeup- both artists have simple make up on they only have the basic makeup, eye liner, mascara, lip gloss and blusher which shows off the artists complexion well.

Hair- the artist’s hair both are down and in a messy style this shows that they are from a genre where they can have fun and don’t have to be too serious.

In conclusion my whole magazine represents young men and women to be full of aspiration, strong and independent my photo shows that this young women is no afraid of getting herself into the music industry and she is ready to take on new challenges. Throughout my magazine they are represented as strong willed young people ready to take on the world.

Evaluation: Question 1: In what way does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

-->
In my cover I challenged the shot type that is used in the Top of the Pops magazine as I had a two shot that was a medium long shot compared with the close up of the model on the other magazine. However I used the same facial expression and the body language is similar as the models in my magazine were very close and smiling at the camera, this is making eye contact with the audience and is also used in the Top of the Pops magazine. There is a lack of mise en scene in both of the photographs however the amount of photographs used on the cover is the same amount and similarly layout. I positioned the photograph in a similar place to the other magazines photograph and therefore used the layout of that magazines cover.

The general layout is used dramatically, as the title is boxed, most boxes are rounded and circles have been used as well as the posters being featured at the bottom of the page and the rows of headlines just above them.

I developed the fonts used in the magazine as the font is still rounded however it isn’t as ‘popish’ as the Top of the Pops magazine the font sizes have been challenged as my font size for my masthead was a great amount bigger than the other magazine and the cover lines were a lot smaller.  The language type was developed as although words like ‘gossip’ and ‘fashion fix’ were used it wasn’t as cheesy as in the other magazine.

I have challenged how busy the page should be by having less content and overlapping which is usually seen in my genre of magazine, this was because I wanted a more spaced out magazine rather than it being over crowded. I developed the posters by having less and they are different poses, however the fact they are in there is a use of the codes and conventions of that magazine.

I used the title of the contents page as it fitted in with my genre, I also used the cover inside the contents as it gives more depth into the magazine, the page numbers have been developed as they haven’t got arrows to indicate where the page and stories connect. They are only at the side of the cover.

By putting the date and the issue number on the contents page am challenging the codes and conventions of the magazine as usually its only on the cover. The we <3 font="" heading="" is="" m.t.m="" nbsp="" style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 11pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt;"> developed as it is similar idea to the we <3 colour="" different.="" different="" font="" fonts="" heart="" however="" is="" of="" shopping="" style="color: yellow; font-size: 11pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt;" the="" they="" use="">as the top of the pops magazine has a very rounded pop like however my font is more classy but still follows the genre pop.

My magazine is challenged as it isn’t following the three colour rule and is using many colours to separate the sections. I have used the fashion section and added photographs of props to keep the pop genre of the magazine. I have developed the circled picture of the band featured in my magazine by adding a stroke effect to it and therefore it stands out more.

In my double page spread I used the quote as a main heading this is because it’s the best feature to use as a heading rather than an ordinary masthead. I developed the positioning of the description of the story as I have put it straight under my masthead and it is in a block box, I did this because I wanted it to stand out and not blend into the background.

I challenged the structure of the name as I have positioned them so there used as subheadings rather than included in the story. I used the page numbers in the corner of the page as I thought it was very smart and looked better than just putting a simple number in the bottom corner of the page.

I have developed the photograph as the shot type is still the same (medium long shot) and they have big smiles just the same as Leona does however they are in a tighter frame as there is more of them and the models take up the whole page. Lastly, I have challenged the type of shape used to display the story, as I wanted to use something that was more creative and different rather than just the plain simple box.

research and planning social networking feedback

I put my magazine on twitter so that people could comment and give me feedback on what changes I could make to it so it was better suited to my target audience as they could give me advice on what was good, needing changing or was completely miscalculated to my audience.
